Wilson Review: Deep Red II Distance Irons

Manufacturer: Wilson Golf

Details:

Purchase: Bought off E-bay brand new for a song and dance at $167.00 3-SW with stiff steel fat shafts.I had been playing with a set of Cleveland TA-3 Formed Forged with S300 Dynamic Gold shafts all summer and was looking for something just a little more forgiving as I can not hit consistent draw or fades on command, but have been getting better as the year wore on, but wanted something that I can play without working so much on my swing.

Pros: These I must say are very straight!! Off center, straight! Hit it thin, straight! Anywhere on the face, Straight! The fat shafts have a nice look to them and do not distract at the club head, the weight is low and back and gets the ball up very fast, clubs are at least 1/2 to 1 club longer than my last set do to stronger lofts. It is nice to watch your long or short irons float down on the green than have to be worried about carry and roll. Heads have a nice weight to them and these feel good in the hands.

Cons: Feel!, really there is not much to these as far as feel is concerned, as decribed above, anywhere on the face feels almost the same, but when you hit it dead on you can tell,If you like the solid muted feel of a shot most all of the time these are great, if you like lots of feed back then these are not the sticks you want. Working the ball is not much of an option, this can be done, but you really have to manipulate the club to get it done,If you like your shots just go straight, these are great! It will take awile to get used to just taking a straight dead on aim at the pins.Think it will take time to get used to not bieng able to move the ball much but after a few rounds, dead straight is not all that bad either!!

Deep Red II Distance Quality: Golf Pride softie grips are standard and look sharp, quality is first rate, Heads are polished, so mark a little more, fit is first rate also! Classic looks for over size irons.

Summary: If you want an iron that lets you enjoy the game a little more with a less than perfect swing and like long high shots with lots of forginess, then thse are a great buy now that the 2005 line will be comming out very soon,
