Wilson Review: Pi5 3-SW IronsManufacturer: Wilson Golf Pros: Grew up playing Wilson Staff blades, and wanted to get back to a more square, traditional looking blade-like club without all the offset/oversize nonsense. My old '89 Callaway S2H2's are still pretty sweet, but got tired of hooking the long irons. These Pi5's are very appealing to the eye and set up very square to the ball. Mishits still go very decent, and I can work the ball either way. They may not be as forgiving as most of the over-size crowd, but for me, they really instill a quiet confidence. Really like their design (not too big or too small) and can really pinch/spin these babies. Excellent clubs for the low-mid handicapper. Summary: WIlson seems to have rebounded back into the fray with a high quality product, and for me these irons really have a wonderful, familiar feeling. This set is 2 degrees flat, 1/2" long with Dynamic Gold S300 stiff steel shafts. My best depiction is that they feel like a forged/blade club, with a bit of cast/cavity back forgiveness. The are surprisingly easy to hit for a blade design and have good distance control. Best thing is that I can really work the ball and hit yardages with high/low trajectories. Correct me if I'm wrong but these are some real sleepers. |
