Purchase: Tried it in store at Austad's Golf. This putter line was recently named to Golf Digest's "Hot List" for 2004, and I wanted to see what it was all about. They are asking $115.99 for these.
Pros: Classic blade design that is imitated time and time again. Nice balanced feel. The new Winn grips have a nice tackiness to them. Very soft feel with the blue insert. Single sight line on the flange for easy alignment.
Cons: I would have to try this out on different speeds of greens to get an idea if I really like the insert. I just traded in a Taylor Made Nubbins putter because it was too spongy on long putts, and too slow on slow greens. I wonder if this insert would suffer from the same ailment? I have moved away from urethane inserts (with the exception of Odyssey's DFX) because of their unpredictable nature on long putts.
G2i Anser Quality: Very nice. Nothing too ground breaking, though. As with all insert putters, the test of time will show if the insert is durable.
Review & Rating Summary: A nice quality putter with classic lines that has come to be known as the standard bearer for modern design. I might tend to go with the G2 Anser (no insert) and get the same great putter without the questions of insert distance accuracy and save some cash in the process. Try it out, if you're a fan of insert putters, this is a winner!
