Callaway Review: X-Tour PM Wedge

Manufacturer: Callaway Golf

Model: X-Tour PM
Category: Wedges

Additional Details: Forged 1020 carbon steel head with Satin Chrome finish. PM (Phil Mickelson grind) sole. Special 'Mac Daddy' grooves. 60 degree loft, 11 degree bounce, 64.5 degree lie. Callaway Golf X-Tour Wedge steel 35' regular flex shaft. Golf Pride Tour Velvelt grip.

Purchase: I actually purchased this wedge before Christmas '07 on sale for $80 at Sport Chalet. It was actually mispriced and suppose to be sold for $110, but the sign said it was on sale for $80 (misprint on the item number). The store manager accepted the sale price and I was a happy hacker.

Pros: At first I hated this club. I could not hit the ball at all with it. The loft angle was just too great for what I was comfortable with. But then again, I didn't really know how to chip. My friend started to teach me, and I started to really like this club. It's really versatile, and the 'PM' grind sole bounce really helps at times. The 'mac daddy' puts a LOT of spin on the ball. I never thought I'd be able to check my Precept Laddie on a short 20 yard chip, but with this club and the proper ball contact, the ball will check in 2 bounces and sit. Very nice indeed for those front pin placements.

Cons: The 'Mac Daddy' grooves will really wear out any ball more than the usual U-groove wedges out in the market. At the range, I have to clean out the grooves after hitting just a few balls with a 1/4 to 1/2 swing. Chipping is also the same. But as long as I keep a tee in my pocket, it's easy to clean it out on the course. Can't say much for my balls being eaten up by the grooves though. I don't really like the grip that much. It feels too big for my hands. I have yet to replace the grip. So for now I just have to choke down on it to feel comfortable.

X-Tour PM Quality: Construction and quality of this wedge is terrific. It feels very durable.

Game Description: My main weakness is the driver and fairway woods. My short game weakness is chipping. I've finally begun to really practice my chipping with the help of a friend.

Callaway Two Dot 3-Wood - Fairway Woods - Perfect for the low handicaper who like to work the ball. If Freddy played it for all those years without an endorsement contract, it has to be good.

Callaway FT - Irons - Should've kept the price the same as the last version. Need more shaft options to make it worthwhile for anyone to pay a much higher price than other standard irons. I really would have think hard abo

Callaway Big Bertha (2004) - Drivers - I've played almost every brand of driver on the market at one time or another. From the old Taylor Made bubble shaft to the Callaway VFT and for the money this is the best club i've ever hit. Callaway
