Billy Casper Golf-Managed Compass Pointe Golf Courses (Pasadena, MD) Achieve Prominent Audubon Designation
(VIENNA, VA) –Compass Pointe Golf Courses (Pasadena, MD) – managed by Billy Casper Golf (“BCG”) – has been designated a “Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary” for its high standards protecting the environment and preserving the natural heritage of golf, making it the 13th course to achieve such honor in Maryland.
In attaining certification from the conservation group Audubon International, Compass Pointe’s 36-hole layout successfully maintains sound environmental practices in six key areas: environmental planning, wildlife and habitat management, outreach and education, chemical use reduction, water conservation, and water quality management.
“The leadership and agronomic teams at Compass Pointe hold a strong commitment to a sound environmental program,” says Peter Hill, Chairman and CEO of BCG. “With only about 680 golf courses worldwide achieving prestigious ‘Sanctuary’ status, we’re proud most Billy Casper Golf courses are among this elite group.”
“Working with Audubon International, we’ve been better able to understand the ecological impact the golf course has on our surroundings,” says Joseph Tubiolo, Superintendent at Compass Pointe. “Providing golfers with healthier playing experiences and preserving safe havens for wildlife are very important.”
Following the Audubon International-approved steps for an environmentally-friendly golf course reduces waste and promotes efficient operations. An effective program results in a reduction of maintenance costs, including insurance premiums, energy, water, pesticides, fertilizer, equipment wear and labor.
Gracefully routed through 800 acres of Maryland countryside, Compass Pointe Golf Courses – designed by award-winning architect Lindsay Ervin – offer players a wide variety of terrains among the 36 holes of championship-caliber golf, including the links-style North/East combination and the tree lined, parkland-style South/West pairing.
Both courses feature bent-grass from tee to green and the putting surfaces roll smooth and true. While, at times, the layouts may be demanding, lies from the fairway and around the green allow players every opportunity to make a well-executed shot.
Compass Pointe offers a spacious practice putting green and a driving range with both natural grass and mat hitting bays. The Compass Pointe Golf Academy opened in spring 2008 with an extensive player-development program featuring a wide variety of custom instruction for players of all skill levels.
The property houses a full-service golf shop, grille, two pavilions and a new outdoor patio for any size event or corporate outing.
